Me: Interests

Music

I've played piano since I was six and I listen to pretty much any type of music. I listen mostly alternative/pop/folk, though - artists such as Tori Amos, Bare Naked Ladies, Ben Folds, Blues Traveler, John Mayer, Matchbox 20, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, They Might Be Giants, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Weird Al Yankovic. I also have CD's ranging from classical, to Pink Floyd, to dance, to 50's and 60's, to Disney soundtracks.

Movies and TV

I love movies and yes, I'm one of those people who has a DVD system. As far as genres goes, it really depends on what I'm in the mood for. I like comedies ranging from fun ones like The Whole Nine Yards and Men in Black and There's Something About Mary, to animated ones like A Bug's Life and Toy Story, to independent ones like Chasing Amy, to dark ones like The War of the Roses and Analyze This. I'm also a sucker for romance movies like Before Sunrise, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally..., and Benny & Joon when with the proper company. Probably my favorite are dramas and thrillers such as The Green Mile, Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, The Sixth Sense, The Professional, Interview with the Vampire, and Misery. I also like dramas and really obscure foreign films. Not necessarily ones that I'd watch again and again, but ones with a concept I've never thought of before.

There are very few good shows on TV these days. Really, the only shows I regularly watch are Will and Grace, House, West Wing, Family Guy, E.R., The Daily Show, and South Park. Some reality TV can be entertaining but nothing I watch regularly. For instance, I just like watchign the audition episodes of American Idol. =^) Since we have cable, we also end up watching a lot of documentaries on a wide range of subjects.

Humour

If you haven't been able to tell yet, I have a slightly weird sense of humour. (That, and I enjoy using the British spelling of certain words.) I think humour is one of the most important emotions in the world. That's why I openly support distinguished stations such as Comedy Central. Well, maybe distinguished is too strong a word for a channel that plays the same movie until the tape breaks, but still... As you can see at the right, among other things, I enjoy taking photos of odd signs.

Whatever you do, just don't take life too seriously. It's not like anyone gets out of it alive. There's a time for everything, but never be embarrassed to play with your Legos, fill out MadLibs, read comics like Dilbert, or color.

Food

When I was little I didn't like to eat anything. I remember sitting at the kitchen table in front of cold food for hours at a time. Now I'll try pretty much anything except most seafood still doesn't appeal to me. Anything with cherries, chocolate, or both is a sure winner in my book. I'm also addicted to anything with garlic, but I never mix those three. To that end, I'd walk on hot coals for Ben & Jerry's Icecream. I'm also partial to hot chocolate and Jelly Bellys.

Other Stuff

Any gadget with lots-o-buttons, studying massage and acupressure, camping and hiking, amusement parks, labyrinths, magicians like Penn and Teller, clocks, photography, learning about other religions and cultures, News of the Weird, long walks with no particular destination, movie quotes, collecting old post cards of Worcester, quotes in general, wandering around Europe, sending e-cards, and e-mailing and hanging out with my friends.
