Original Works: A Good Night for a Walk
by Troy Thompson and Anthony Conti Fall 1993
We went out looking
for a place to eat.
We traveled eight miles,
every one on our feet.
We almost lost hope,
the wrong turns were many.
We saw a bright sign,
a place named for Denny.
Now the coffee was good,
and the cocoa was hot.
Our waitress was friendly,
and offered the pot.
She thought we were drunk,
we didn't know why.
She'd been working for hours,
on a big caffeine high.
A twelve hour shift
from five to five.
She begged us to stay,
and said she would drive.
We offered to help
with the chores of her trade.
She could sleep in the booth
and still get paid.
We left with a smile,
and a wave good-bye.
She said she would see us
'round WPI.
Returning for breakfast
on the very next morn.
We knew she would be there,
so we showed up.
