Philosophy: Catching the Train
I've always wanted to jump onto a moving train like in the movies. When I was in Italy, my friend and I were running late to catch a train. When we got out to the platform, the train was pulling away. I really wanted to chase the train and jump on, but I knew that my friend was very reserved and would never do it. Then I realized that she would be even less inclined to be alone in a train station in Italy, so I yelled, "RUN!" and started running. I heard a panicked, "What?!?!?" as I headed for the moving door, but kept going.
The adrenalin was running fast as I jumped on, tossed my bags down, and started cheering her on. I knew she was going to make it, and if there were any doubt she wouldn't get on the train, I would have jumped off.
She made it up to the door, and she was smiling so that was a good sign. I grabbed her bags, and sure enough, just like in the movies, after the bags are on the train, the person always drops back and then catchs up to the door again. This was becoming very educational.
Finally, she jumped on intact. She couldn't believe I had done that to her, but after she caught her breath, she was happy and excited she did it... Sometime people just need a push...
